It was overdue, but yesterday morning the dogs and I went out for a morning walk down in the valley after feeding and cleaning but before work....
Feather knew the minute we turned right instead of left off the highway - even though it has been months since she's been down that road. It was all new to Bella, though.
I wanted to check the pond as it has turned cold and stayed cold. If it doesn't start warming up we could be ice skating very soon and sure enough - there is a thin sheet of ice over the pond, strong enough to support Bella (but not Feather).
I knew that I would miss Chance the first few times I went on this walk and I did indeed. He loved this walk, chasing rabbits and trotting his effortless trot down the road in front of us, and we always, always, always had to wait for him back at the car as he finished his last loop. We do miss Chance and will for a long, long time.
There's some pretty colors out now, those soft winter colors. Grays, pinks, greens, mauves. We're moving towards winter very quickly. Already the holiday commercials are on TV, we're starting to see the gift catalogs coming in, and we're making our plans for Thanksgiving.
We'll travel, reluctantly, because we want to be with family. We'd rather stay here but we can't seem to convince people to come up here for Thanksgiving so we'll go where they are.
It is hot tea time and as usual, I miss Edisto. I'm drinking up tea that I bought a long time ago... Magpie tea... tea I've been hoarding. This Russian Caravan is a smokey black tea that makes me think of Sierra Valley and I brewed up and drank an entire pot of it yesterday. The dogs were nice and tired after our walk and I had a productive morning. We'll do a repeat today.
